Reasons why YOU should get a facebook pet

I have recently been blessed, yet again. First facebook presented me with the opportunity to care for a baby (her name is Jewish, if you recall)...and I took on the responsibility of being a mother gracefully...until I lost the baby for a few months and she almost died...and come to think of it, I haven't heard her b*tching in quite some time...hmmm...?

And next, and more currently, facebook has given me the best friend a girl could ever ask for (besides all those other 'friends' I have on facebook. Oh you know who you are! yes YOU! hey, that vacation you took two weeks ago looks like it was a lot of fun! Who's that guy besides your boyfriend in the pictures, though? The one who was really tan and buff? With the ray ban sunglasses and tribal tattoo? Oh you have to go? Ok I'll TTYL then!): A pet. Or, to be more specific, a purple cat who I chose to name Pamplemousse.

Pamplemousse has filled my life with joy, and my days with purpose. I wake up in the morning, and know that I have to feed her, change her clothes, help her jump over hurdles in the stadium race. I know that before 5, I'll have bathed Pampz (that's my PET name for her, if you will), and probably bought her a new toy...or a flower for her garden. It's really just...so meaningful.

Which is why I want all of YOU to get facebook pets too. If you're more of a dog person, or a moose fan...don't worry. You design your own pet, name it, pick out its clothes...

Reasons why YOU should get a facebook pet (NOW!)

1) Fun! OH it is just SO fun. It's so fun that I can't think of any other adjective to describe it!

2) Me! YOUR pet could play with MY pet...which would frankly, given the amount of time I'm logged into the 'Pet Society' application, increase the amount of time that WE interact. You would like that, wouldn't you? To spend more time with ME?

*I call this picture 'I kissed a girl and I liked it'*

3) Fashion. Sure, you're kind of funny looking and awkwardly proportioned...but your facebook pet wouldn't be. Have you always wanted to wear shorts, but felt that your cankles would be too embarrassing? Well, live vicariously through your facebook pet! Dress him up in shorts! Feel the coolness around his knees...as if you were wearing shorts yourself. Experiment with head-dresses and bracelets that you couldn't normally be in the same room with. DO IT!

*Here I experimented with: a crown, a Greek toga and a tri-colored bracelet. Would I ever wear it? NO! Does P Mama look rockin'? You know she does!*

4) Athletics. Well, I don't want to tell you EVERYTHING about 'Pet Society'....but basically, you have a pet who you have to feed, and clothe and play with. In order to buy food and clothes and toys for your pet to play with, you need to earn coins. Well, one of the ways you can earn coins is by participating in a race against other people's pets. If your pet comes in first, you get 30 coins! OOHHH shiny

5) Hygiene. You get rewarded for keeping your pet clean, and even for cleaning other peoples pets (sounds dirty, no? but it isn't. In fact it's clean!). I support that, and you should too!

6) Adorable. OMGGGGG...my pet, P-Diddy, is so cute! She has a little button nose and a mouth that looks like a moustache. Just take a look, won't you? This happiness could be yours...and for FREE too!

7) Design. So, I am kind of poor and besides that, I am lazy. I had some bedroom furniture at home in CT when I moved into CT and rather get stuff that I really liked I settled and made do (it's really not that bad...just my dresser drawers are so shallow...). Well, I can decorate Pamplemousse's house any way that I want to! Sure, she has to sell drugs so we can get coins to trade in for furniture and decor...but whatever. She's a big girl.

TOY ROOM

PARIS ROOM (oh yes that IS a light up mini moulin rouge. what what!)

7) SHINY. Did I mention the coins?

In short, everyone should please sign up for a 'Pet Society' account ASAP. If you don't, I will just have to log into your facebook accounts and make a pet for you.

BYE!

After 3 a.m...

I have recently become Spanish. By that I mean, that I've been eating dinner after 9 pm and I sort of have a lisp.

The eating after 9 thing is alright, I guess. I mean, I don't eat tapas or anything like that. I usually whip together some eggs, or a sandwich, or a salad...or I pick something up on my way home...

But as a result of my new lifestyle I've been noticing something: I can't F-ing sleep!

I thought it might be the heat at first, when I tossed and turned a few weeks ago. Then I thought it might be caffeine. Then I thought that I had established a later sleep pattern and needed to try to go to bed earlier to establish a more manageable routine for myself.

For a minute I thought I had turned into an owl, bat or some other nocturnal animal. But I don't have sonar capabilities, I don't fly and I'm still a human. SHUCKS!

Except none of those things have really worked. I sleep OK...but not as well as I previously have. I'm tossing and turning, I'm hot, I'm having weird dreams...I wake up in the middle of the night and crave chocolate (anyone else?).

Well last night, this pattern displayed itself once more. I was in bed, lights off by 11...and at 3 am, after SOMEONE texted me (please, please...don't text me after 12 on a weeknight, and don't call me before 10 on a weekend, ok?!)...I woke up. I was awake in bed, tired but unable to fall back asleep. THAT SUCKS, doesn't it? Well, if you recall...I wake up at 7 normally...meaning since I couldn't fall back asleep I had four extra hours at my finger tips. So what did I do with all this extra time? After 3 a.m. what did I do until 7?

1) I laid in bed. I tried to breathe in and out and clear my mind...and relax myself enough to fall asleep (now I wasn't stressed and I was relaxed already...but I thought if I could just breathe enough I would lose consciousness and drift into sleep. That didn't work so then I

2) Read some of 'The Book Thief'. Yeah...I gave up on reading 'Infinite Jest'. I read to page 250 and gave it a noble effort but I just couldn't get into it. 'The Book Thief' on the other hand, is just my speed. I read that for about half an hour and then

3) I laid in bed. I contemplated some song lyrics, and what to wear the next day to work, and what position might be more comfortable to sleep in (that's what SHE said yo yo yo yo!)

4) I went on facebook. For some reason, 4:30 seems like a good time to change some quotes on your facebook profile as well as your profile picture. UMMM...

To be fair, this was the quote I added:

"Um, thank you. I'm not much for public speaking. Or much for speaking. Or, come to think of it, much for the public. And I'm not very good at lying. So let me just say that, in my experience, high school sucks. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have started advanced placement classes in preschool so I could go from eighth grade straight to college. However, given the unalterable fact that high school sucks, I'd like to add that if you're lucky enough to have a good friend and a family that cares it doesn't have to suck quite as much. Otherwise my advice is; Stand firm for what you believe in, until and unless experience proves you wrong. Remember, when the emperor looks naked, the emperor IS naked. The truth and a lie are not sort of the same thing. And there is no aspect, no facet, no moment of life that can't be improved with pizza. Thank you "
-Daria

How great is that?

5) I went on ebay to look for oh you know, a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

6) I read a little more of 'The Book Thief'. If anyone wants to borrow it when I'm done...holla at ya girl!

7) I painted my nails...with four coats. UM, that seems like a lot doesn't it? In the end it looked OK, but I decided I wasn't ready for painted nails so I took it off.

8) I downloaded some music. Anyone remember/know the band Down to Earth Approach? Sk8 got me into them sophomore year, and it's been a while since I listened to them. I can't find the CD I had their songs on, and my ipod currently boasts just one track so I thought I would remedy that at...I don't know...6-ish?

And finally, if you can even imagine me saying this...7 rolled around and I hopped into the shower.

I AM SO TIRED. Someone please carry me home...someone? anyone?

Things that have happened recently pt. 2 (Queens)

To quote New Found Glory, which I do from time to time, : NOOO I don't want to make this an issue...I just wanna pick back up right where we left off so we don't...get caught up again...

1) I made contact with a cockroach in my apartment. OH GOD. Remember last summer I had all these nasty cockroaches in my apartment? For a while there was one in my room that only came out at 4 am on Friday/Saturday nights. Then there was a cockroach in the bathroom one morning, and another one that I killed with my bare foot (UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!). Well, now there's another one...

So we haven't been particularly clean lately, and it just started to get warm out again...but I never thought that the cockroaches would come back. I probably haven't seen once since last fall. I thought they were gone. Donezo. I thought they got the message when we put traps out and kept killing them when they appeared. Sometimes I have a hard time reading people too...but...

Apparently cockroaches aren't too good with hints. This roach was SO big. It had BLACK markings / war paint on it. It was probably packin' heat too. Maybe it was even on drugs! Oh wait...I don't live in Brooklyn. Ahem Ahem...

It scuttled across the floor at the rate of 80 miles per hour, AT LEAST...and then tried to crawl in my drawing supplies. OH NO YOU DIDN'T...shoot. I went in for the kill as it raced up the wall by the bar table...the broom I was holding made impact he/she/it went flying. I haven't seen him/her/it since. true story.

2) I overslept. OH GODDDDD. That is one of the worst feelings to me....well, besides looking a young girl in the eye and telling her you killed her mom, or turning around to see a trail of broken glass/blood/destruction behind you and thinking 'did I do that?', or taking a piece from a jenga tower and watching it all collapse underneath you along with your hopes/dreams etc.

So, I jumped out of bed, put on the I'm From Barcelona song 'Oversleeping', sang 'I can make it in time, if I jump out of bed, if I skip to wear clothes and get running instead' (anyone?), hopped in the shower, put my face on and was out of the door. There was a bulldozer coming down the street so I couldn't cross over. I noticed a barricade on the sidewalk closest to me but I was half awake and panicked about being late so I shimmied around it and...

3) Stepped in wet cement. UGH! Has anyone else ever done this? OH, maybe I should clarify. Has anyone else ever done this NOT on purpose to leave a memento or make a statement? It is guh-ross.

Some haikus:

Wet cement: uh oh
I'm sinking! Someone help me!
I'm too young to die

Plastic shoes-praise be allah
I can wash this crap right off!
In my toilet...um

Now-even later
I'll just sneak in, quietly
Oh hi C.F.O.

In conclusion, if I were to somehow stumble into quicksand I would basically die. I struggled through that wet cement like it was nobody's business.

It's been an interesting week.

Things that have happened recently pt. 1 (Brooklyn)

Let me just tell you, the past few days (basically since Thursday) have been kind of crazy. Kind of exciting and relaxing and boring and fun and amazing and typical...but also

(if you get this reference please chat me or e-mail me! just curious)

I don't know what to do in terms of an intro here...I mean, the entry will speak for itself. So let's just get started, shall we?

1) I went out in Williamsburg! Yep. That's right. On many occasions I've said things like 'Brooklyn? Really? It's so far. I might as well take the train home to Connecticut if I'm going to eat/drink/hang out in Brooklyn. In fact, I could even go to Jersey or 'upstate' New York in the time it would take me to get to Brooklyn! Brooklyh Shmooklyn!' and yet, on Thursday night I found myself chillin' in the 'Burg with Caitlin and Kelsiah (*~*) and Roman. The following things took place:

a) 'The skies opened up' on us as we were walking to Buffalo Exchange. Curse you vintage clothes/adorable second-hand accessories! I was wearing a pair of red shoes I bought last fall but have worn twice...and they got SOAKED on the trip. They're by the doorway to my apartment and they're STILL wet. STILL. WET. !!!

b) We went to get pizza because Roman was hungry and the overly tan, gold chain wearing, 'forgeddaboudit' saying, wasted pizza place owner:

(add 25 years to this guy and you'll kind of understand what we were dealing with. Also, this pic is worth double-clicking on so you can read the small print.)

-wouldn't answer a phone that was ringing off the hook
-immediately hit on Kelsy, asking her 'where she was goin' after?' and 'can I come witchuz?'
-lit up a cigarette
-drank a heineken
-offered us a joint and when we said 'no thanks' smoked one himself
-fanned a wad of bills in our faces after telling someone who came into the shop that he 'didn't have change for a ten'
-produced a bag of cocaine, which he also offered us (*gold star sticker* for being polite), and eventually ended up snorting off a paper plate with a plastic straw (*gold star sticker* for class)
-asked us each for a number which Caitlin think he used to bet on something

all during the 10 minutes that we were there! I said 'Guys, I think that was the most illegal situation I've ever been in'. I stand by that statement.

c) Went to Barcade. OMG, I love this place! Before you say anything that sounds like 'omg I go there all the time' or 'my friend goes there!', I'm not trying to say that I 'discovered' it or even imply that you haven't heard of it. I know I'm not hip. I know I'm a 'follower'. Whatever. I mean, or am I a follower? What are you doing later? I don't have any plans...I mean, I don't know. What do you want to do? I would do whatever you want to do.

anyway, at Barcade we saw a guy who looked like this:

with a dog like this:

He let the dog run loose around the bar. I almost stepped on it / thought it was a rat. If he wasn't/isn't currently using that dog to score some poontang, then my name isn't Beckity Snickets! BROOKLYN! STOP BEING STUPID!

WORDLE.net

I was recently perusing one of my FAV. blogs (*~* or starsquigglystar.blogspot.com) and I learned about a new website called 'WORDLE'. Basically, you can enter text into world, or enter a web address into wordle, and it'll make a word collage for you. When your word collage is generated you can use a color template that they provide for you, or you can add your own colors and really customize your word collage.

Here's the word collage for THIS blog:

Things to notice: my name!, margaritas, vodka, 'tis...

To fully enjoy the wordle click on it and open it in a new tab. To make your own go to www.wordle.net.

More later today!

GROOKS

I don't know if I told you guys, but I'm kind of in a relationship.

Oh no, not with a person! PLEASE! As if that would ever happen!

No no, I'm in a relationship with a website-search-engine-tool-bar-thing. It's called StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com/download_autostart.php). We're very happy. Thanks for asking.

Anyway, StumbleUpon and I have been seeing each other for over a year now.

WOW. That's the first time I've said that outloud. You hear that StumbleUpon? We've been together for over a year? I want you to know that this past year has been one of the fastest of my entire life. You've supported me and challenged me. I'm a better person now because of you and I thank G-d for you every. *kiss*

Well this just got really awkward, huh?

Anyway, yesterday I was stumbling and I came across a website full of Grooks.

Yes, Grooks.

You might be wondering what a grook is. Here's a link to the wikipedia entry on them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grook

And here's an example of a Grook for those of you who are too lazy to click over to the wikipedia entry (really people? c'mon!):

Love is like a pineapple
Sweet and undefinable

I don't know where these Grooks have been all my life (sorry, StumbleUpon. for the record, we never made it official, ok? I'm still single on facebook for crying outloud!) ! ?

I love these little poems! They really speak to me. I tweeted one, and I even put two different ones as my gchat status. When I got home last night I shared some with Jamie and she fell in love too (sorry, Shane). So we decided that we would try and write our own today.

Here are Jamie's:

Becky P----- loves to accessorize. Jewelry, shoes, scarves, bags and then some.
But imagine if this passion grew in size. A walking boutique she would become.

Oh my, You;re pregnant and sixteen. You probably should have wrapped it
You thought you'd be homecoming queen. But that thought, well I hope you scrapped it

Here are mine:

She looked down the street, saw gardens in bloom and decided she'd make her own!
So she went downstairs, stole some mint, and started to garden alone.
The landlady found out, she was angry to say the least
Jamie had single-handedly ruined her mojito feast!

Well, that's not really a grook. Let me try again here

A vodka tonic, is quite simple: vodka, lime and soda
After a rough day of work who could resist? no one, including yoda!

UGH!

'Tis a gift to be simple, 'tis a gift to be free
'Tis a gift to have a delicious cracker and some brie!

Paperclips, pencils, scissors and tape
Useful tools for a 'work'day escape

~~*~*~*~*~~~~
Jamie is clearly more talented at writing these than I am. Good for her! Look for her book of 7,001 Grooks coming in the Fall of 2010 (don't worry. you can write 6,999 by then!)

Feel free to comment with grooks of your own! HAPPY almost 4th/NO WORK day 3rd! WOOT!

Meow (that's the sound that a copycat makes)

Some of you might recall a blog entry I did last year entitled 'Things that look like faces'.

Anyone?

Anyone?

Bueller?

Here's a link: http://beckysaysthat.blogspot.com/2009/01/things-that-look-like-faces.html

And here's another one: http://beckysaysthat.blogspot.com/2009/01/things-that-look-like-faces-pt-2.html

Well, wouldn't you know that while I was talking to Kate yesterday she sent me a link to the following: http://listoftheday.blogspot.com/2009/06/faces-of-earth-of-day.html

This blog is basically the SAME thing as the blog I did over six months ago! I AM SUCH A TRENDSETTER!!!!!!!
