More of the same

Hello!

check out the website I just found: http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/urban-street-art-eye-see-you6

It's like these people read my blog...and then decide to put eyes up on everything! CRAZY.

OK. No entry today...not much to say. :)

Things that look like faces pt. 2

Well, I just had the CRAZIEST conversation with Matt. Look:

(yeah, it's a bit blurry...but if you want to see the whole thing just click on it). I missed the VW bug completely in my last entry. The VW bug, according to Matt, looks JUST like a smiley face. Well, I checked it out and I think he's right.

here are two options that I came up with:

1)
2)

GOOD CALL MATT! Thanks for the suggestion :) Oh, and here's anoter VW bug that looks just like a smiley, without my even having to edit it:

Things that look like faces

Happy Tuesday everyone! That's right, it's Tuesday already! Can you believe it?! It feels like just yesterday that it was Monday...and it feels like less than TWO days ago I was hanging out with Odin.

Oh wait...
wait just one second.

DAMNIT!

Anyway, as Tuesdays go, this one isn't that bad. Sure it's no Mardi Gras, but what can ya do, ya know? Only 1 Tuesday out of every 52 is Mardi Gras. It's kind of unfair actually...are all of the other Tuesdays supposed to just sit, sans beeds, and feel bad for themselves while Mardi Gras goes parading around? Are those 51 Tuesdays supposed to start drinking, to ease the pain of being boring and normal? Are those 'regular' Tuesdays supposed to sit in Mardi Gras' shadow? WELL, you tell ME!

Now, I'd like to get into the real meat of this entry: things that look like faces. I've always thought that some things look like faces (faces, for example look like faces)...and have enjoyed a giggle or two passing by a a house with windows and a front door that I thought looked like a surprised smiley face. But, upon sharing my insights with others (Debbie, Jason, Erin, Jamie...the list grows...) I realized that they don't see the world the way that I do. They don't really see faces anywhere except, you know, on people's or animals' faces. How sad for them! So now that you're probably ALL confused and dying to click away to another website (I have google analytics, ok? I know what's up) let's talk about some inanimate things that look like faces.

And for your sake, I will draw a little something to help you visualize incase you're not able to. :)

1) car lights: either in the front or in the back. In the back of a car, the tail lights can be eyes while the bumper is the mouth of the face.

Figure A:
Fibure B:
Figure C:

2) houses: In particular, the front facade of a house with windows and doors. The windows look like eyes and the door looks like a mouth.

Figure D:

Figure E:
3) electrical outlets. I think this is FAIRLY obvious. What are you STUPID or something?

Figure F:

Figure G:

4) The RFK bridge (formerly the Triboro bridge). Now, this is a bit different. This might even be the piece de resistance, if you will, of this entry. I believe, that one day we will judge people based not on the color of their skin but on the content of their character. I also believe that the Triboro bridge, at night, with its lil' red lights on top, looks like a hermit crab. Don't believe me? Let's have a look:

Figure H:

Figure I:
Please, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me that now that I put the pictures up, right next to each other, that you can see the similarity. The little beady eyes on the hermit crab (Figure I) are JUST like the little red-dotty-lights on the RFK bridge (Figure H). AND, long sweepy curved cables of the RFK bridge are just like the sweepy curved legs of the hermit crab, right?!

OK. I hope you've learned something here. Go tell your friends and expand your horizons! You never know what kind of inanimate objects that look like smiley faces are out there :)

Photoshop on Demand...still applies

Hey there, friends! I hope you all had a nice weekend. It probably wasn't anywhere near as exciting or as awesome as mine, but I hope it was fun...in a mediocre kind of way. Not that I don't want you to have fun...but I don't want YOUR fun to compete with my fun and make my fun feel less impressive in any way. I hope that we all understand each other here.

So, I got some additional requests for photo-shops of baby Odin. In particular, his dad and mom and Erin asked that Odin be made into: a ninja, a princess, and a cowboy. As an Auntie to Odin, I feel the need to comply with such wishes. I mean, if I were to deny Dave and Mara...wouldn't they deny me in the future?

Becky: Hey, Dave and Mara. I'm outside your apartment!
Mara *hiding under the table in the livingroom*
Dave: Oh hey, we're actually not home...
Becky: I can see you
Mara *still hiding* She can see us?
Dave: Um, there's nothing to see. I don't know what you're talking about.
Becky: Um...?
Dave: You didn't make Odin into a ninja so we're not letting you in!
Mara: *still hiding* Or a princess or a cowboy! Tell her she didn't do any of those things so she can't play with Odin!
Becky: I heard you, actually. I'm right outside.
Dave and Mara (in unison): NO ODIN FOR YOU!
Becky: Is that a soup NAZI reference? Is this a Jewish thing?! TOO SOON!

That being said, let's have some fun!

Princess Odin:

Ninja Odin:

Cowboy Odin:

Alright, talk to you later!

Welcome to Odin!

Hello Everyone!
I want to tell you all about a new friend that I have. His name is Odin and he's 5 days old...and I love him!

OK, WOW. Please STOP looking at me like that and whispering about me. It's not like that. Man, people are so gross sometimes! No, not ME. YOU! YOU'RE GROSS!

Odin is Dave and Mara's new baby, and I met him last night for the first time. You remember who Dave and Mara are, don't you?

If not, here's a picture:

That's Mara on the left and Dave on the right. No, they don't normally dress like that. This was taken at my 'Arrested Development' party, so Mara is dressed as Lucille 2 and Dave is dressed as Tobias (cut offs = not pictured). What a great party...

Anyway, it was very exciting to get to meet their baby yesterday :) Kate and I went over to their place, brought some pizza and salad, and hung out for a few hours. Of course, being the vain person that I am...

wait a second...

did you hear that?

no no, shhhh...
shhhh....stop talking...

I thought I heard someone say something that sounded like 'Becky is the most amazing person in the world' but I guess I could be wrong.

shhhh...wait...I hear it again...

no no, that was nothing.

For your viewing pleasure, here are pictures of Me and Baby Odin! And yes, I asked if it was OK to put these up. SERIOUSLY. ARE YOU TESTING ME?!

That's all she wrote. She being me of course...
If you can't read the little conversation bubbles click on the picture and view it in a separate window.

bye!

Inauguration!

Well, I'm back. Four whole days out of New York City...and you know what? When I came back I kind of assumed the city would be in ruins. I pictured dirty people, huddled in the streets, burning paper to keep warm, crying out 'Why Becky?! Why did you leave us?!'. I imagined that CNN would be reporting from the streets with questions like 'How did Becky's departure affect you? Did you even see it coming?'. I imaged zombies and a smell of pee and lots of gross things and sadness.

But I guess you were alright without me. I don't know HOW or WHY, but you were.

That being said, inauguration, overall, was great! I'm so glad that I got to go and be a part of history and other boring bla bla cliche sounding things.

Would you like to hear about my day, on Tuesday? NO? Well, you're a free person (I assume) so navigate elsewhere!

I woke up way too early on Tuesday. How early is too early on a day that you're not working? 5:40 am. That's right. 5. 4. 0. I don't know how I was able to get dressed, especially after a night of restless sleep (I was just so excited!), but somehow I managed. Julia drove me over to Michelle's and then...we were off!

Well, kind of. We got the metro quickly enough (Michelle lives around the corner), but then there were a few problems. The first problem was, all the other people there. STUPID people. Didn't they know that I a) have personal space issues and b) would be taking the metro? Furthermore, didn't they know I was TIRED and didn't want my 15 minute ride to take over an hour? I guess not.

That being said, we did get to chant 'O-BAM-A!' on the metro and sing someone happy birthday, so I think the ride itself averages out to neutral. OH, and if you could not tell the DC police that I took a picture of the metro that'd be great. I think it's against the law...

But then, we got off the metro. AND WAITED in the L'enfant Plaza metro station for 45 minutes. I'm not exxagerating or even exaggerating (you spell it with two 'g's apparently and not two 'x's) . Literally 45 minutes. I didn't bring a TV with me, or a gun, or a knife (they had strict regulations on the size of the bag that you could bring with you on the mall, and strict rules about WHAT you could bring with you, too)...but if I had...I probably would have gone ape shit and started a riot. I would have thrown my TV and shot someone. Really, I would have. It would have been like LA in the mid 90's.

Anyway...

Finally, we emerged onto the streets. I didn't notice the cold, at first, because I was so happy to be outside and have fresh oxygen. I was happy to be free! You can't be cold when you're free, right? There were people everywhere selling Obama buttons and Obama shirts (some of them were TACK-Y, with a capital 'T' and 'ACKY')...but we couldn't stop. We had to find our 'spot'. I'm not a runner, but had the streets been empty, I probably would have jogged along, all in a frenzy, tryind to stake out an area for Deb, Jason, Michelle and me. The music from 'Rocky' would have been playing. It would have been AWESOME.

But, since I'm basically a blob on little stick legs, and I HATE running, instead of taking to the mall triumphantly, american flag in hand, to the steps of the US Capitol, I waddled, slowly, hands in my pockets, to a spot right by the porta-potties in front of the Washington Monument.

Once we had our 'spot' Jason and I promptly decided we had to go to the bathroom...

We worried we might never see Debbie and Michelle again! But luckily, because of Michelle's enthusiasm and BRIGHT PINK coat, we spotted them quickly. We stood around for a while, making jokes and small talk. Slowly our feet got cold, and our faces. But our spirits? They stayed warm. Corny isn't it? But it's true.

So, we waited for a little bit. To ease the masses, they played Sunday night's inaugural concert on the jumbo screens. We were entertained until the inaugural ceremony started.

First there was a children's choir that sang mostly Christmas songs (um, didn't anyone tell them that a) Christmas is over? and b) CHRISTMAS is OVER! and c) even ADVENT is over, you idiots!). Then there was another choir, followed by a military band and then something else. Whatever, I wasn't really paying attention.

BUT THEN, all of the important people started to come in. First some committee members, then the Representatives, followed by the Senators and former Presidents. THEN...the Bidens! and FINALLY the Obamas!

I'm sure you all watched, so I won't go through the specifics but suffice it to say that I really enjoyed being on the mall and hearing Obama live! I thought his speech was great, and I was so happy to be able to be in DC and experience all of it in person.

It was also fun to spend time with Deb, Jason and Michelle and dance around to keep from freezing. I like dancing even when there's NO purpose involved so to dance around with an actual end goal (not dying) was great!

After the inaugural ceremony ended, we walked back to Michelle's. It was kind of like the movie 'The Day After Tomorrow' because all the road ways were clear and instead of cars, there were just people walking everywhere. We walked over this road bridge into VA and it felt like we were fleeing a massacre that had just taken place in DC. Well, except for the fact that no one was panicking and we were all happy and not incredibly depressed about the world ending. Because you know, the world didn't end on inauguration day. In fact, a NEW world began!

A world full of 'YES WE CAN!' and a non-waspy white house. A world of hypo-allergenic dogs in the white house and fairness in Washington. OHHH what a world we're living in!

Things I would like to do in DC

Back to the same old lists, eh?

Wait, why am I asking myself that? I already know the answer.

Or do I?

Do I?

Do You?

Hehe. I could really go on like this for a while...

Anyway, I am going to DC this weekend! YES! The rumors are true! I will be there from Saturday-Tuesday, a nice little mini vaca. I miss DC, like a lot, like really a lot, like as many rice krispies are in a family sized box of rice krispies...that's how much I miss DC. While I'm in DC, since I'm not there very often, I have some things that I would like to do. Why don't I tell you about them?!?!

Things I would like to do in DC (this weekend):

1) Eat. Well, I think that can be arranged since the only definite plans I have involve eating. Going to get Chai at The Dav tomorrow, brunch on Sunday followed by a fondue dinner (well not directly after brunch. We need some time to digest! Gosh! What is wrong with you? or me? or you?), lunch on Monday at Guapos and then dinner in Old Town on Monday night. There's some pretty good food in my future :) Oh, and Julia made some cupcakes and is saving some for me...so...CUPCAKES too!

2) See friends. Well, I'm staying with Jon and Julia so I'll at least get to see them. Plus Kristyn is in town! And Rainu and Melissa...and gosh, I am just so popular. I hope there's enough time for me to see my minyons. No really, there's not that many people...but I'm about quantity not quality anyway. Which actually reminds me...we need to talk...

3) Drink! Well, this probably doesn't surprise very many of you. I drink all the time. At work, on the way to work, At dinner, At breakfast, when I'm shopping, when I come home from shopping, while I'm watching TV, while I'm turning off the TV after I've watched it, while I'm at the liquor store, when I get home from the liquor store (well, duh!), when I wake up and sometimes when I'm sleeping too (don't ask me how because I can't tell you). That being said, I would like to drink while I'm in DC. If I don't, I might get the shakes.

4) Meet Barack Obama. I don't know what I would say to him exactly...probably something along the lines of 'Hey B', and then he'd say 'Hey B' back because my name's Becky and everything. Then I'd probably blush and try to awkwardly hug him or shake his hand...but it wouldn't go over well and then it'd probably look like I was trying to molest him...which could get me shot. Anyway, it'd be cool if somehow I ran into Barack Obama...but not cool if I got shot.

~*~*~*~*~

I didn't get to finish this list because work ended and then I was on my way...my badz!

What I feel like right now:

For those of you NOT in New York City/outside, you might not know how FRICKIN' cold it is right now.

So let me share. Walk in my shoes for a moment, won't you?

What I feel like right now:

and if you want to say something snobby like 'oh Becky here's the world's SMALLEST violin playing the world's SADDEST song for you' don't bother. I stand by what I said!

REALLY? is this actually happening?!

I knew that I would, kind of, be tired today. I went out to celebrate Kate's birthday last night (WOO! Josh came and we had Chinese and then saw 'Slumdog Millionaire' and then got a drink! It was really fun. I think Slumdog Millionaire might even be the best movie of the year ;)) and didn't get home until 12...or to sleep until 12:30 or 1. That might not seem SO late to you but I am a bit of an old lady...and I normally try to be asleep by 11. When you wake up at 7, that extra hour and a half really can make all of the difference.

(This looks just like, except for the hair, face and wedding ring...and laptop. So this girl is just a bitch.)

But, I didn't know how badly my day could or would actually turn out. After I snoozed twice, I looked outside and saw that it was snowing. SNOWING? HM...I don't remember it saying that it was going to snow today...but then again I didn't check the weather report so that makes sense.

I put on my (f)UGGZ, my orange pom-pom hat (have I told you all about this hat? I am seriously in LOVE with it!) and got ready to go to work. My ipod had decided to freeze itself so I couldn't upload the new songs that I had downloaded but I didn't think that was such a big deal. Stuff like that just happens sometimes...

I took to the streets and arrived at the subway in no time. I mean I live JUST around the corner sooo...I'm awesome. I noticed a woman hugging onto the railing and going down the stairs very slowly. VERY slowly.

" C'mon Lady! I ain't got all day over here!" I yelled at her in my thick New York accent. Just kidding, I didn't say that. But I thought it...

And then, WHOOSH! BAM! THUD! I fell down the stairs, ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR stairs...right on my butt. I was shocked.

"Are you alright?" the slow woman asked me.
"SHIT! OW! I mean, yes!" I replied to her. OW...I was in pain. I got up, somehow, and waddled down the rest of the stairs...terrified that I would fall again. But I didn't, and I got on the subway. The ride passed quickly, which was nice...and then it was back out to the streetz with me.

I slipped another four times on the way to work (apparently (f)UGGZ don't have ANY traction, so if you're thinking of wearing them on a snowy or rainy day in lieu of silver rain boots I would say 'PLEASE! DON'T DO THAT!') but made it to my desk without another fall.

My butt really hurt, though and I was kind of freaked out. I mean, who likes to lose control like that when they're all alone? I probably, were it not for that woman, could have slid down all the stairs and sat in a pile of my own blood without anyone offering to help me. Queens is rough. I'm still convinced the slow woman probably only turned around to look at me and ask if I was OK because she was afraid I would keep going and topple her over. It was survival thing.

Well then, the day just kept getting worse. My butt continued to THROB so I went downstairs and made myself an ice pack...which leaked onto my seat and my skirt...

Then I spilled white out on my desk, keyboard, skirt (my poor skirt! how much can one skirt handle?!), and my right thumb nail. I can't seem to get it off my thumb nail...

I received some annoying news via gchat, which soured my already sourpuss mood...

And then, I found out, that the microwave panini I had brought for my lunch had cheese on it...and since I had no lactaid pill with me that meant that I couldnt' eat the sandwich without feeling really ill later on. But since I have plans to go out for drinks later on I didn't want that to happen so...I ate bread, a cup of cheerios and some WISE tm. Onion Rings for lunch.

Now things seem to have cooled off and I'm hoping that a few margaritas tonight will help improve my mood...but SERIOUSLY PEOPLE?! IS THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENING?! Did I actually fall on my butt, spill white out on my skirt and keyboard, get my skirt wet to the point where it looked like I peed on myself and then also get dramatic/annoying news in gchat?!

I guess so.

DC TOMORROW!

Debbie's Running For Congress!

Debbie is thinking of running for congress! Representative Carolyn Maloney from New York might take over Senator Hillary Clinton's post...meaning there'd be an empty seat in the house.

You only have to be 25 to be a congress-person...and the pay is $100,000/yr (I won't go into exact details but that's a lot more than what we make now). OH, and if you work in congress you don't have to work HERE so that's a big perk. With hiring freezes all over the place and no raises to be heard of working in Congress might not be so bad.

PLUS, imagine how close Debbie would be to Barack Obama! That alone would be amazing.

Debbie: Hey B (as in Barack, not as in Becky!). A few of us reps. and sens. are thinking of having a pot luck pizza bagel day. You down?!?!
Barack Obama: I'm sorry, do I know you?
Debbie: I'm representative Debbie Scher or New York's 14th District.
Barack Obama: Oh, right. Hi Debbie!
Debbie: Hi! So, pizza bagels?
Barack Obama: I'm actually lactose intolerant.

I don't know if he really is lactose intolerant, but I just want to make people aware of this very serious medical condition. CHEESE! MILK! I love you I love you! I'm eating cheese...and I'm singing...with my dad...hi dad...I love you! I love you! That's a reference to 'Elf' again. I'm still not over it, apparently.

I told Debbie that I want to be on part of her team, should she get elected.

As what? you ask.

LOGO/POSTER DESIGNER. I know! How cool would that be?!? I'll use this blogging time to share some of the ideas that I have with YOU. ENJOY!

The saga of the missing shopping cart

I'm sure you've all heard your fair share of tall tales. Johnny Appleseed who went across the country planting apple trees (on foot, no less) and Paul Bunyon a freakishly tall and very skilled lumber jack. Well today I'm going to tell you all another tall tale.

Only this one takes place during modern times and involves a shopping cart.

What kind of shopping cart, Becky?

Good question. No really, it was very thoughtful of you to ask that. It was a black shopping cart, purchased in the spring of 2008 (shutup) and assembled in December. It was about 4 feet high, and around 10 pounds. I had used it once or twice (ok, so perhaps I only used it once but judge not lest ye be judged!) and despite some slight handling issues it worked pretty well. The idea of wheeling things in lieu of carrying them is what made me get the cart in the first place.

+

=
The walk back from Stop & Shop is pretty enjoyable when you don't have to CARRY pound upon pound upon pound (you get the idea) of groceries.

So, the cart and I were on our way to forming a fast friendship. I spent many sleepless nights thinking about trips the cart and I could take together (I blamed the bags under my eyes of 'eating too much sugar before bed' or 'wearing heavy pajama pants under my covers', but those were all lies. ). Visions of sugar plums danced in my head as I pictured the cart and I heading over to Target together or taking in a movie at the local cinema. My life, I thought, was really looking up. Not only did I have plenty of plans for 2009, but I also had someone to come along with me and share the memories I prepared to make.

Fast forward to a cold, Sunday evening. I, with my new winter cap, had walked to the grocery store. I picked up some delicious entrees (perogees, pasta, chicken, cous cous and more!) and was feeling accomplished by the time I had wheeled my cart back to my apartment. But then, a problem presented itself. How was I supposed to carry the awkwardly proportioned cart, and my grocery bags up the stairs at one time?

I pondered.
I thought.
I cried.
I laughed.
I called my mom.

And then I made a decision: I would carry my groceries up and leave the cart at the bottom of the stairs. I reasoned that it would be safe. There were baby strollers at the bottom of the stairs and no one ever touched them. Oh, and there were obviously, because of the strollers, babies living in my little apartment building (ok it's more of a house, but shhh)...people with babies are peaceful, right?

Well, I was wrong. Because a few days later, after a full day of work, violins playing the background, tears streaming down my cheeks, homeless kitten in my left hand and two soup cans for the local soup kitchen in my right hand, when I arrived home, the cart was missing.

The violings stopped playing.
I dropped the kitten.
I threw the soup cans against the wall
I stopped crying and started scowling.

WHO WOULD DO SUCH A THING?! I mean, those baby carts sit at the bottom of the stairs all the time and did I ever think about taking them? Did I ever push them over or rought them up because they were blocking the pathway up to the stairs?

NO. And you want to know why? Because I'm a good person. Not a great person or an outstanding human being. Just a normal, average, somewhat crazy, good person. I vowed that by the time I got upstairs I would have formulated an action plan.

But then I forgot. Maybe I was hungry, or maybe I got a phone call, or maybe I got distracted looking through the mail. I really don't know.

The next day, I forgot again. And then I forgot AGAIN. I don't even know what to say.

But then, over the weekend, with my nose dripping down my face (I might be exaggerating...) , in my leopard fleece pants something amazing happened. I REMEMBERED my missing shopping cart and at the same time I vowed to do something about it.

Later on, I was having brunch with Deb, Dorfman and Erin and I asked them for some advice. I pounded on the table for emphasis and screamed at the top of my lungs!

Erin told me that it didn't matter WHO took it. Debbie told me that it was obviously a misunderstanding. Dorfman just sat and smiled. I suggested a few things: that I take one of the baby strollers and use that to wheel my groceries/laundry around, that I permanently steal one of the baby strollers, that I go from door to door in my building (with a lie detector test) and ask my fellow residents if they'd seen my shopping cart (ok the lie detector part is a lie but I really did want to go door to door).

We decided that I would write a note, leave it at the scene of the crime and hope for the best.

So, I did just that. The note was on yellow paper, lest it be passed over, and said:

HI.
I left my black shopping cart here and now it's missing.
If you know where it is, please bring it back.

Thanks,
Becky (the third floor apartment)

Within 15 minutes the cart was back. TRIUMPH!

The moral of the story:
1) don't leave your cart at the bottom of the stairs because even though there might be baby strollers there, really, ALL the time, peopel will steal it.
2) don't trust your neighbors.
3) even if your neighbors steal from you they'll probably, if prompted, return what they took.
4) leaving passive aggressive notes is sometimes a good idea.
5) sometimes Debbie and Erin do give good, serious advice.
6) shopping carts are awesome.

bye!
