Things I'd like to blog about

So this is an interesting title for a blog entry, isn't it? I'm blogging, but I'm blogging about things I'd like to be blogging about. Does that count as really blogging?

This shouldn't really surprise anyone. I like to talk about things that I want to do. And most of the time, unless I have friends that are persistent or my family members bother me about it, I don't follow through with them. I'm a talker, not a walker.



I don't mean that literally of course because I LOVE to take walks.

But anyway, this into is becoming tiresome.

Things I'd like to blog about:
1) Light. I have a draft saved of an entry about light. It's called 'Things I like about light'. It's not very good, which is why it's still a draft and hasn't been published. I mean, if it's of such poor quality that it's not even acceptable for THIS blog...it must be really bad, right? But I think it's important because I'm still PISSED about how the light on one side of my apartment is blocked out now. ARGH!


2) Pirates. I think I would title the entry 'Things I like about pirates', because I like pirates a lot. I talk about them a lot in here. Anyway, pictures would be easy enough to find and I think people would enjoy the entry.

3) My thoughts. Not because they're particularly interesting but because those entries are the easiest to write.

4) Oprah. There'd probably be a lot to say about Oprah if I wrote about her. Her hair styles alone could fill a blog entry. Not to mention her habit of interrupting people (isn't is so rude when people do that? Oh wait...I do that...man!) and the fascinating guests she has on her show. Like remember, that one time, when Tom Cruise was on the show and he was all crazy about Katie Holmes and everyone was like 'whaaaaaaaaaaaa? shiz! he done gone crazy!'.

5) Things I'd like to make. I would call it...um...'Things I'd like to make'? I'd probably talk about knitting and painting and bracelets. This might not make it off the cutting room floor.

6) Doughnuts. Not really sure what to say about this or how I could fill a whole entry with doughnut-themed banter and pictures. I do really like doughnuts though.

7) Funny websites. Like LOLCatZ and um...
I guess first I'd have to find some, and then I could blog about this.

8) Cats. No one would read this one. But I'd probably giggle a lot while writing it.

9) Bands I like. Like maybe U2, or Acceptance or New Found Glory. Those are a few bands I've thought about blogging about while riding the subway.

10) Things that are annoying me. BLAH!

11) TV. I've kind of already done some TV centered entries but maybe some more would be fun! Like 'Things I like about Rock of Love' or 'Reasons why I can't stop watching Top Chef'? Anyone? Anyone?

12) Poems or quotations that I like. A good drink = a good quotation (and that's probably why I'm such a dork).

Things I like about Donkey Kong Country!

Hello Everyone! So some of you, or really Kate, pointed out that I haven't blogged in a while. I can't argue with that. It's true. It's been a while.

But I'm here now and I'm better than ever!
Though...that's probably not true. But I do have an idea for a blog and some free time now so I'm going to rock an entry out for all of you!

I've been thinking a lot about Donkey Kong lately. Sort of random, no? I have a few reasons: 1) I have the Donkey Kong pirate song on my ipod (I think it's in my itunes from when I had the pirate party way back) so it comes up when I have my songs on shuffle and makes me think about Donkey Kong 2) In honor of facebook chess, I tried to make a "smack talk" gchat status message. All I could think of was: "It's On Like Donkey Kong", which, obviously, made me think of Donkey Kong 3) Something else.

So here goes: Things I like about Donkey Kong Country


1) Fun name. I mean, isn't it? Don't you just giggle a little when you hear DONKEY and KONG in the same sentence?!?!?! As someone with a pretty COOL first name and SERIOUSLY AWESOME middle name, I can relate and support a video game with a fun title. Hehe.

2) Monkey. So Donkey Kong is a monkey, right? And though they're not my favorite animal, I do enjoy monkeys quite a bit. They're cute and active. They bounce around a lot and swing from trees-rebellious! Also, their squeaks sound almost like my cats' meows...and cats' meows are music to my ears. Le sigh. So yeah! I like that the game involves monkeys which are cute and squeak and are basically like cats.


3) Bananas. I like bananas. A lot. Bananas are heavily emphasized in Donkey Kong. They're what give Donkey and Diddy lives and also what help Donkey and Diddy stay on path and not get lost on their journey through Donkey Kong Country. Yay for Bananas!


4) Hoarding. You might know, or might not know, that I like to hoard. I'm not one of those creepy people on Oprah who can't live in their houses and have to buy trailers to set up in their back yards so that they can keep all of their belongings in their homes while they sleep outside. My hoarding doesn't interfere with my daily habits or force people out of my life. It's more simple than that. But anyway, in Donkey Kong, Donkey and Diddy hoard bananas to earn new lives. And, in the bonus rounds, the whole object is to collect, or hoard, as many golden animals as possible in order to earn Donkey and Diddy bonus points! Seriously, those levels are amazing and SO fun!

5) Beautiful. The graphics are just beautiful. The underwater levels? I mean, if I wasn't being chased by a weird octopus-swirly-anemone thing, I could just sit and stare at the billowing coral and rippling water all day when I'm playing them . And what about the standard jungle scenes? The lush green of the trees and the bright blue of the sky? B-e-a-utiful.


6) Adventure. The game isn't all hoarding and nature-it's adventurous too! Wipping over broken cart tracks in 'mine cart madness' and jumping over barrels of dynamite in 'whatever that level is called'. I'm not Indiana Jones so I'll take adventure whatever way I can get it. Even if that 'way I can get it' involves being anti-social/locked up in my room/losing sleep.

7) Pirates. I LOVE PIRATES. SERIOUSLY. I draw them and I have parties themed around them and I talk like them when I'm upset. So the fact that the FINALE of the game is a one-on-one battle with a pirate is pretty amazing. WOW. I really like Pirates!

8) Did I say monkeys already? I think I did.

9) Motivational. Like all video games, Donkey Kong Country teaches you to chase down your dreams. So sweet.

Things I'd like to read

So, after a vacation from reading, I've started to get "back into it". I'm reading again. I'm reading!

Apparently, reading is just like riding a bike. You can not read for quite some time and then get right back into it again. You can't lose your ability to read.

Anyway, all this reading has got me thinking of the future. Where do I go from here? I'm in the middle of reading 'Blink' now (so good!) and after I finish that, assuming I do..., I'll probably finish up 'Dreams From My Father' (sorry Deb!).

But then what? There are lots of things I want to read. But when I go to the library or the book store I blank. I get so nervous! So many books! What do I read next?! Uhh...Uhhh...Uhhh...*sweaty palms*...SHIZ!

I mean, my name was, at one point, Imakebadchoices McPantsbergsteinowitz-Cohen, wasn't it? I obviously am not good at making choices. (that's an inside joke from my study abroad in case any of you are reading this and wondering wtf i'm talking about) I spend all day thinking about what I'm going to wear the next day or about what I'm going to eat for dinner. I'm slow when it comes to decision making. So, what am I supposed to do about reading? I want to read. I love reading! But...



So, to eliminate confusion, I'm going to make a list of things that I'd like to read. This way, when I finish reading things, instead of PANICKING about the future, I can refer to this blog and find something to amuse me easily.

1) The Tipping Point (no I'm not copying you Erin. I mean...I named myself BERIN and I want to read the same book as you but don't be fooled!).

2) Unaccustomed Earth. I really liked 'The Namesake', so why not read her next work too?

3) The Bible. I actually took a copy of this from work and it's sitting on my bookshelf at home collecting dust. Whoops! The Bible is the most popular written work of all time (at least I seriously think it is. I don't think I made that up, did I?) and is referenced up the heezy. I should read it.
(Does this game weird you out? I just googled: the bible and this came up...)

4) What I'd Say To Martians and Other Veiled Threats. I love Jacky Handy, like whoa. I think this book looks really interesting and is PROBABLY funny. Interesting and funny? Did someone say Heaven?

5) The Fountainhead. I started reading The Fountainhead the summer after college, and I got about halfway through and gave up. See? I REALLY THINK I DO HAVE ADD! But anyway, I'd like to start reading it again and finish it this time. I liked the first half the first time around...

6) In Cold Blood. I don't know if I really want to read this or if I'm just susceptible to Hollywood advertising. But, I saw those movies that came out a few summers ago on Truman Capote and I found him to be very intriguing. I'd like to read 'In Cold Blood' so I could see what all the fuss is about.

7) The Grapes of Wrath. I don't know why but... I feel like I should read this.


8) Something by Kurt Vonnegut. I started reading books of his this summer after I graduated and for some reason (Work? fatigue? laziness?) I stopped. I really enjoy him though and I should keep reading!

9) The Stranger. But in French.

10) the World According To Garp. I've read this already, but I think it'd be nice to re-read it.

11) Mein Kampf. I know what you're thinking. First, The Bible. Now, Mein Kampf? Becky, are you sure you're REALLY Jewish? You "look kind of Aryan". NO. I'm not. Aryan, I'm not Aryan. I AM Jewish. I AM!


12) Second Chance. By Jane Green. I really like her books. Even if they're not that "deep" and about "stupid girly" things. I'm allowed, ok?!

13) My name is Asher Lev. I read 'The Chosen' by Chaim Potok and enjoyed it a lot. Yada Yada Yada

Things I like about DC

I'm going to DC this weekend for a little reunion!! HOORAY!! I'm really looking forward to it, after a crazy work week thus far (is it really only Wednesday? No, like, seriously. Are you playing a joke on me? Am I on candid camera?).

So, in the spirit of my friendly reunion with DC, here's a list of things that I like about DC:

1) Close to Maryland and Virginia. So, I don't really like Maryland (sorry to my friends who are from there). And Virginia's kind of 'eh' (sorry to my friends who live there). But, I like having the option of visiting both places in a short amount of time. I like options. Take my wardrobe for example...
Anyway. When I'm in DC, even if I don't want to, I have the option of visiting Maryland and Virginia in a timely manner. Well, not timely if I went to both states on the same day...

2) Off of I-95. I-95, despite its constant 'under construction' status, and its congested-ness, is a highway this is close to my heart. I-95 is near my house in Stamford and is a highway that I take part of the way to Cape Cod. It's cool that a highway that's so close to home can take me all the way down to DC. It makes for an easy and VERY convenient drive :) I like that I can take I-95 straight through to DC.

3) Free museums. I love museums and I love free things (you should probably already know that. And if you don't...well...this is really awkward for me so I need to go do something else now). So I love that DC has a plethra of free museums to visit! They're all so pretty and big. And so cost effective!

4) Clubs close early. I usually go to bed at a decent hour (11ish) and I sometimes have a hard time staying up late. In NYC things are open all the time. But, I can't stay out all the time, can I? In DC the clubs/bars close at 2. Even on a WILD night, if you're out til 2 at a club or bar you can be home and in bed by 3. And then, when you're in bed at 3, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you "closed [insert venue name] down!". In DC, if you choose to go out, you can get to bed at a semi-reasonable time, and seem really OUT OF CONTROL at the same time. I like that about DC. I'm all about status.
5) The National Mall. I don't know why I like the National Mall. Maybe it's the way the sky is always so BLUE there. Or maybe it's the cherry blossoms that bloom there in the spring. Or maybe it's the sports games taking place on its green grass that are fun to watch. Or maybe it's even the free fireworks from the sky above it on The Fourth Of July. I can't really say. What I can say is that I love it and it's one of my favorite things about DC.

6) Guapos. So, Guapos is a Mexican restaurant/chain in the DC area. The waiters are over-friendly, the margaritas are strong and the salsa is super delicious. Ohhhhh the memories I have at Guapos...

OK, so this is really a lie. I actually have a lot of "beef" with AU. But they just sent me a survey in the mail, along with a FREE window decal, so I'm feeling generous towards them.

8) Dupont Circle. Dupont Circle is probably my favorite neighborhood in DC. Cafe Citron is there and The Big Hunt (hehehe). There are a few, cute used book stores that I love along Connecticut Avenue. Bistrot Du Coin is located in Dupont. Dupont Circle, with the fountain and the benches, are, erm, located in Dupont? It's a great place to walk around and enjoy nice weather, or have a picnic, or a few drinks...I love Dupont Circle!

9) My friends. I have friends still living in the DC area. I love all of them and miss them a lot. They're part of DC's appeal, fo shiz.

10) My memories. Where to even begin...


Oh actually I think I DID begin with DC Memories a while back. No one seemed to like it except for me and Kristyn.

Things I'm thinking Pt. ?

Hello Everyone.

So, I've had a kind of 'eh' week despite some recent developments: I won at chess on Monday, I've seen some amazing 'Intervention' episodes this week, 'How I Met Your Mother' was really funny this week, I'm going to Karaoke tomorrow, I went out for delish margaritas tonight and had my first red velvet cupcake. So many good things and yet...here I am. 10:24 and exhausted despite the fact that I went to bed at 10 last night. That can't be good.

And as if fatigue isn't enough, my 'eh'-ness, I feel, has been leaking into my blog. Unacceptable! On Monday I was so EXCITED about my 'things that make me smile' list but now I'm just...losing...inter...e....s....t in it.

Well, this blog is all about fun, isn't it? And, this blog is all about me, isn't it? So, if something isn't working for me, and I'm not having fun while writing in it, it's OK to take a break and try something else, correct? It's important for me to have fun, by any means necessary, right?

Please say 'yes'. I really want your approval.

So, let me get back into the swing of things here and instead of overthinking my blog, and every word I'm writing, and every picture I'm uploading, let me just write...

Things I'm thinking Pt. who cares?

1) I should go to bed instead of writing this. If I keep writing this, I'm going to get more and more into it. And the more 'into it' I get, the less I'm going to want to go to sleep, and the more tired I'm going to be tomorrow. Maybe it doesn't matter if I'm tired tomorrow, since it's Friday and I work half days and am able to take naps in the afternoon? Is that a chance I'm willing to take?

2) My hands are cold. REALLY cold. Like...I'm sitting in air conditioning or I've just been juggling ice or eating ice cream. But I haven't been doing any of those things. And it's not like I'm hot all over...just my hands.

3) 'Flight of the Conchords' is really funny. REALLY funny. Kate sent me a song of theirs called 'Banter' because I wrote about 'Banter' in an earlier entry today. I know I've talked about them a lot in here, but they're just...so funny! And I should be able to write about how funny they are as long as I think they are funny, shouldn't I?

4) Why do I keep asking my audience questions in here? It doesn't really matter what they say because I'm not going to edit this later. This is the final version. I guess it's nice to consider them, and their opinions, by asking them questions. That's all I'm doing, considering them. Well...maybe I'm not really considering my audience just acknowledging them and their desire to be considered. Because, like I said, I'm not really going to edit their thoughts in here later.

5) Apparently, I will do anything to avoid reading 'Three Cups of Tea'. Even write a blog entry. It's funny that Kristyn just read this book, too. Who's giving her all of those books that she reads? Can she take out books like 'Three Cups of Tea' from the library near her town, or do they only have older books in the library? Is it wrong to assume that there would only be older books in the library because it's in a small village in a developing country? Is the term 'developing country' offensive? Probably.

6) 'It was something like, but not necessarily, 'Schindler's List'. Today is, almost, Holocaust Remembrance Day. How can I celebrate it in a meaningful way? By getting shots to go to Honduras? By napping? By going to Karaoke? Maybe I'll read an article...

7) I should stop spending money. But I won't. When I get bored or feel upset and want to go shopping I should probably just draw a picture or write in a journal or something. I only make so much and now that I'm going to be retroactively charged union dues (so scared)...shiz.

gotta stop. gotta read.

Thing that make me smile Pt. 3

I know, I know, I know.
I dug this hole for myself.

"Becky, you said you'd be writing every day. And here it is, Thursday, and you've only given us two lists of smiley things, and not three or even four."

My response: "You're right, You're right, I know you're right. He's never going to break up with her."

41) Candy. Those of you who work with me, will attest to the fact that I eat candy pretty much every day. And if not every day, then definitely Monday-Friday. It's so good...
Speaking of candy, it's after 9 am and about time that I went and found some.

42) Hearing rain on my skylight window at home. Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens...

(The best part of that movie.)

43) Banter. I really enjoy some good banter. Whether it's banter between a few people I don't know and I'm just eavesdropping, or banter between myself and a friend-doesn't matter. It's all good.

44) Drawing. I like to draw, a lot. Pandas, sheep, nature scenes, people doing funny things-these are my ouvres.

45) Hand made cards. I like making hand made cards for people and receiving them. I expect pretty amazing things from myself in terms of making cards for other people, since I have SO much experience and everything ;) Receiving a card, even if it's on a piece of toilet paper sharpied lettering, is always special.

(I actually found this picture, already made, on google images. hehehe. But seriously, the toilet paper card thing was an example. Don't get any ideas)

46) Playing games. I love games! Not mind games, though. Just game, games. Cards, Mancala, Monopoly, Chess-so fun!

47) The Zebrahead song "Playmate of the Year".
There's this girl, I don't know, comes by every year or so and if I get the mail before my mom does then I'll stay out of trouble...
hehehe

48) Getting a seat on the subway. And not just any seat, a seat where I can FIT fully, that is not near a sleeping, possibly homeless person (why don't I ever seem to notice them? I get on the subway, see a whole area of empty seats and think 'wow. I'm so lucky. all those people are standing but I get all these seats to myself. ' Then I sit down and find that, right across from me, a man or woman, with a shopping cart and lots of bags, who smells a little, is asleep. Is this offensive?).

49) Seltzer. So, later on I'm going to write a blog entry about all the things that have happened since I've turned 22. "Discovering I like seltzer" will be on that list. MMMM seltzer. Quenches thirst and has no calories or scary artificial sweeteners!

50) Finding money in pants that I haven't worn for a while. It's like FREE money except...it's not. You have the satisfaction of "finding money" without the guilt of "stealing from someone".

51) CBST. For those of you who don't know, CBST stands for Congregation Bet Simcha Torah, a LGBT + Friends synagogue that Erin and I have started going to on Friday nights. Everyone there is sooooooo nice and friendly! It would be perfect except for one thing: they don't seem to understand that we are anti-Oneg.

52) Taking shots. I'm not an alcoholic or anything, I just get really giggly when I'm taking shots. MMM

53) "Arrested Development". Best show on TV, ever?

Really? Her?

54) Christian Siriano. Hot. Tranny. Mess. And I'm not sorry.

56) Mullets. Seriously, who has mullets anymore? Don't you people, people with Mullets, understand that Mullets are never OK? NEVER. Not even if they're "all the rage in Spain".

57) "What Not To Wear". ?. OMG. I want to be on it STAT. Don't try and lie and tell me that I don't dress badly.

58) Getting more donut holes (or "munchkins") than I asked for at Dunkin' Donuts. Has that ever happened to you? So great!! "Yes I'll have 3 donut holes"-only 3. Because if you get 4 you might as well buy a whole donut. And whole donuts are really bad for you. Donut holes, though, are fine. And then, you get in the car, and check your lil' bag of donut holes, and there are 5 or 6 in there. You only paid for 3! What a steal!


59) Facebook. I know it sounds sad, but I really like facebook.

60) Seeing drunk people. Takes one to know one, right? But seriously, drunk people are hilarious!
