Things I like about being hot

Happy Monday everyone!! Work is really dragging today but I can't mind too much because my office is AIR CONDITIONED. Sweet, sweet air conditioning!! You make me feel like a human again...


So, I had a good weekend. I got to relax, watch some 'How I Met Your Mother' (obvs.), get a hair cut (same old same old), have a few beers (delishy), go to the NY transit museum...

But, on the other hand, it was really !@#$-in' hot (especially in my apartment).
Like...so hot that even when I wasn't moving, using any energy at all, I was still sweating. I hate sweating soo...it was pretty awkward.

Thus, I bring you:
Things I like about being hot

In conclusion, there's pretty much NOTHING that I like about being hot.

AH! It's happened again! I write a few good blog entries and then...my ideas run out. I wish I wasn't such a randomly inspired person. It can really be frustrating.

I'm writing right now and...I can't even think of ways to finish my...sandwiches. No, no wait. That's not right. SENTENCES. I can't even think of a clever way to end this sandwich. DAMNIT!

I'm so hungry!

Anyway, now I just got an idea. Good. I guess free-writing really can be helpful :) Thanks writing professors for teaching me a thing or two! Maybe next time I go to blog, if I can't think of anything, I'll make an idea web. I love those things...

So, here's what I'm going to blog about:

A few of my favorite things:
1) My water bottle. I don't know if my water bottle really deserves to be at #1 on this list, but it's right next to me, and blue (one of my favorite colors if you recall), and I'm thirsty today. Put two and two together and...voila!

(So, see the blueish water bottle in the front row on the right? It looks like that but it has our company logo on it and some other writing...)

3) My watch. I just got this watch at target. At first I only bought it, well, because I need a watch and it was cheap. I thought it was nice enough, but nothing spectacular. Well, I've gotten quite a few compliments on it and now I love it! I guess I'm susceptible to what people say. I mean, or maybe I'm not. What do you think?

4) I skipped number two on this list, did you notice that?



5) My bed. Well, right now my sheets kind of need to be washed on my bed (it hasn't been that long, don't worry. It's just so hot in there!)...and it's so hot in my room that I can't even sleep under the covers. But, besides those small seasonal issues, my bed is pretty amazing. It's soft and big and WIDE. I can sleep across it sideways and not dangle off that much. What more could you ask for? Maybe a bed that spoons...



6) My Glitter pens. I had this set of glitter pens that I bought a few years ago. They were amazing. Easy to use, and the perfect addition to any card I was making. Well, they ran out recently and I was sad. But then, a few weeks ago, I found MORE of them at...um...SOME CRAFT STORE! I can't remember the name of it right now which is very annoying but...it's somewhere in Chinatown? Anyway, I was able to use them on Julia & Adam's engagement card and I expect they'll be very useful in the future.

7) My air conditioner. Well, not that it works YET or anything but...once it starts blowing out cold air in my hot, red, face the air conditioner in my livingroom will be one of my favorite things :)

8) My IPOD. Where to even begin...It's silver and shiny. It's small and the back of it can be used as a mirror. It has all my favorite songs on it (well most of them. It's really hard to get all of them on there...) and a lot of episodes from 'The Office'. Basically, if it was possible to marry non-humans first in line would be Wall-e, but a close second would be MY-POD.

9) My purple pens. I had these pens specially ordered for me at work. They write sooooo smoothly and are the nicest color of purple, ever. Well, maybe not ever...I don't claim to be some expert on the color purple, but they are pretty. And they were free. So, you do the math.

10) Eh. I'm over this...

'This Wasn't In Our Plan'...

There's a great song by The Early November called 'This Wasn't In Our Plan'. It's about an unplanned pregnancy and very catchy. Meaningful and catchy in ONE SONG? I know. It's awesome.

Anyway, as I was driving to and from "the shore" this weekend that song came up TWICE on my ipod's shuffle (two different shuffle rounds, obviously).

I think it was foreshadowing events that would transpire in MY OWN LIFE because late yesterday, two impossible things, or rather things that I thought would NEVER happen happened. Life is always full of surprises, isn't it?



The 'This Wasn't In Our Plan' List:

1) I drove through Manhattan. So, I'd kind of promised, myself without realizing it, that I would never drive through Manhattan. I'm not a very good driver (don't tell my mom) and I get distracted easily. Therefore, I figured that it was best for all involved if my bad driving abilities weren't put to the test in NYC aka " [ Insert something clever that I couldn't think of here ] "-ville. But, somehow I wound up on 34th st. driving by Macy's and the BIG H&M (you know the one I'm talking about right? It has so much stuff!) and Penn Station and other REALLY BIG things that attract LARGE Crowds of people.


Somehow, I made it.

2) I killed a bug with my bare feet. So this was especially surprising/funny and I'm still not over it. Basically what happened was this:

Jamie: Something funny that happened this weekend.
Becky: Haha. Something else that happened this weekend, bla bla.
Jamie: Oh really? That was funny and bla bla.
Becky: We're so cool.
Jamie: I'm going to bed.
Becky: Me too.

So, I went to walk down the hall to my room. I didn't think about the fact that I was barefoot. I didn't think about the fact that it was dark. I was feeling good-happy about my weekend at the beach with Julia & Co., buzzed from my lil' convo with Jamie and then...

I STEPPED ON SOMETHING.

Becky: Jamie! I just stepped on something.
Jamie: What was it?
Becky: Oh my god. Oh my god.

Then I ran into my room because, apparently, it's a good idea if you're afraid of something and 22+ to run away to your room/the couch in the livingroom (before when the bug appeared in my room I had run away from it to the livingroom. Yes, this bug has been living in my room for the past TWO weeks. And NO I'm not dirty!). It's really mature and responsible to flee your problems.

Then Jamie turned on the light and...
We discovered that I had STEPPED on the HUGE cockroach that has been hiding in my room.

Becky: Oh my god. Oh my god. I JUST KILLED THAT BUG WITH MY BARE FEET. I JUST TOUCHED THAT HUGE BUG WITH MY BARE FEET. !!!!.

Then Jamie ran into my room and we sang "My Favorite Things" from 'The Sound of Music' because were scared. Just kidding. Hehehe. She really DID run into my room though.


Then Jamie ran to the other end of the hall and covered the bug with a paper towel (not sure how his tactic helped, but it did) and eventually, with no help from me, the bug was flushed down the toilet.
IT WAS CRAZY. And yes, I washed my feet 10102910921092x since the incident, just to make sure they won't rot off.

Wall-E

Hi Everyone! So I went to see Wall-E last night and it was seriously awesome. SO ADORABLE.

UM...

well, I thought that I would have a lot to say on this subject but apparently I don't.

So, here's a picture that I think is adorable because I love Wall-E!

Things that have made me happy today

Sometimes I get really frustrated. Like, REALLY frustrated. Not just in a Charlie Brown kind of 'good grief Lucy is a stupid skank and needs to STOP offering to hold the football for me if she's just going to lift it up and make me fall on my face/back-->/potentially be paralyzed' kind of way. Frustrated in an existential, I <3 Huckabees/don't know what I'm doing with my life and when will I ever know what I'm doing with my life kind of way.

It's the downz.

When I get frustrated, it's hard for me to concentrate. I find myself being drawn to facebook and to THIS very blog. I find myself wanting to call every single person in my cell phone...even my personal defense professor from freshman year of college (he said we should keep his number in our phones incase we ever find ourselves in dangerous situations and need guidance, cool/weird right?). When that passes, and I see outside of my angst, and my frustration....I try to think about this:
Things that have made me happy today (so I don't feel too bad and become a DEBBIE Downer. No one likes that, now do they?)

1) Waking up with my fan on. It is SO nice waking up and not being hot. I mean, nothing changed from Tuesday night to last night. It was still hot, and I was using my same fan (<3 vornado <3), but something was extra special this morning so I woke up feeling fine.
2) Reading 'Exodus' on the subway to work. What a good book...so far.
3) Having free iced coffee at work. So, it's kind of complicated to make and involves a series of cup and spilled ice cubes and odd looks from people as I walk around the building with containers filled with ice But it's free and delicious and the Jew in me can't resist.


BAM! Take that Jews!

4) Talking to my friends in gchat. Some of my friends are really funny and amusing. Some of them also give me free things, and compliment me and are HOT. Yay for friends!



5) So, we sort of got an air conditioner for my apartment. It's not working (yet)...so as of right now it's not something that made me happy today. Instead, the manual for the AC has made me happy. IT has little diagrams of outlets (telling you different kinds of power cords you might need to plug the AC in) and I'm telling you THEY LOOK LIKE FACES! Hehehe, it's really funny and in the midst of work being lame has made me pretty happy.


6) M&Ms. Yes, one of the organizations that works in my building gives out FREE M&Ms. These make me happy.


7) My dress came! I got the CUTEST dress online. Check it out:

Things I like about the beach!

So, I guess it's kind of summer time.

Do you feel like it is?

I don't. I mean, I'm in an office all day doing the same old kind of thing. I could wear a long sleeve cardigan in here and my FUGGS and feel the same as I did when it was winter.

And I don't have a window, sooo...it all feels the same.

Now that I've killed your spirits a bit and made you feel sorry for me, let's move on to something a bit more fun: the beach.

So (except for the few hours I spent at Coney Island on Friday, where I was fully dressed and NOT lying down or swimming), I haven't been to the beach in over a year. Can you imagine? I used to practically LIVE at the beach, or something. AND NOW, over a year?!?!

Well lucky for me, I'm going to the beach this weekend!! And then, I'm going to the beach in a few more weeks when I head up to the Cape.

I. AM. SO. EXCITED.

Things I like about the beach:

1) Sun.


2) Surf.


3) Sand.


4) Makes being lazy look cool. I mean, if you lie around, inside, then you're just LAZY. But if you lie around, outside, at the beach, with lots of other people, then you're not LAZY. You're social and ambitious. Working on a tan is hard!


5) Relaxing. It is really relaxing going to the beach. I don't know if it's the lying down or the sitting or if it's the lack of city noises or distractions, but something about the beach is really relaxing to me. As I type this I'm dozing...just thinking...*snore*...about it.


6) Not work. Yes. These days, I pretty much like EVERYTHING that's not work.

7)Makes me tan. Some people might argue that I don't really get tan, just a darker shade of pinky/peachy. Well, those people don't write in this blog soo...
(I am totally tan in this picture!! Granted, it was taken...18 or 19 years ago...)


8) Sunglasses. I get to wear sunglasses at the beach and, frankly, I look really good in sunglasses.

Things I like about America!

HAPPY (after) FOURTH OF JULY EVERYONE!

Can you believe it? It seems like just a year ago when I was planning a 'Sex and The City' marathon with Katelyn and Alex at my house and now here I am living in 'The City' and well...

Never mind.

Anyway, I kind of wanted to write an America themed blog entry when I got back from my travels on Honduras. Surprisingly, or not, I never got around to it. But I think it would be nice, in honor of America's birthday, to celebrate my homeland and praise it for what it's got.

"You got it goin' on GIRL!!!!!! Fo serious! Have you been workin' out or somethin' cuz you're lookin' mighty fine and no I don't just mean those skinny jeans you're rockin' I mean the whollleee package, you dig?"
Things I like about America!:
1) I was born here. Were it not for the US, the mightly melting pot, my parents, and their parents, and their parents probably wouldn't have met. And, I'm no scientist, but I'm pretty sure that if my parents, and their parents, and their parents hadn't met that I wouldn't be here today. I like being here, so I like that America helped my family to shack up and make me!

2) Great colors. Red and blue are my FAVORITE colors, remember? And white, well...it's fine. I mean, I'm wearing white today so it can't be that bad. But anyway, GREAT CHOICE IN COLORS George Washington!

3) Democracy. I say a lot of things. Some of them contribute in a positive way to society, others are silly and kind of embarassing. But, were it not for democracy and more specifically Democracy in America, I might not be able to have THIS blog or walk down the street and say things like "See that girl's skirt? It's like health class up in here!"



4) Amenities. So, every country has amenities in some fashion. People sleep on things, and are cooled by others. But, I tend to think that the US has the BEST amenities. There are pools-a-plenty, and most public places are air conditioned when it's hot outside. Running water is standard and paved roads are the norm. Now, most people in the US even have wireless internet and cable TV. I think that's AWESOME.
And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm freeeee....

5) Hollywood. Hollywood is really awesome. Movies, Music videos, Reality TV-Hollywood is great! It entertains me and makes me feel superior by selling "shallow people" and endorsing the "stupid situations" they get into. I'm not THAT shallow, and I don't do stupid things like that. I mean I do stupid things, but not like THAT. You know?

6) Hamburgers-thanks Debbie. This is, of course, in honor of the 39483984 hamburgers I've already had this week and the one additional burger I had the other night at the SHAKE SHACK (MMM. It was great! Even without the special shake shack sauce :) )

7) Variety. There are a lot of states in the US...possibly as many as 40 or 50! Each state, because of its geographical location and unique cultural history, is different. Can you EVEN compare New York state, for example, to New Mexico? I don't think so.
That's great! So many OTHER countries are "unified" and "mostly similar", but not US. We're different, and special, and not boring at all! A person with ADD, like me, can really thrive in a diverse, BIG country like the US.

8) I can't write this anymore because the HUGE cockroach has resurfaced in my bedroom closet and I'm kind of freaking out.
