Things I like about Miriam

Hi Everyone! I'm doing two posts today. YES, TWO. No, I'm not doing this for your praise (though if you want to leave me comments or praise me via G-Chat or E-mail or Facebook that's ok. I won't stop you) or for Debbie's points. I'm not even doing this so that I can show off about it and pretend to be high and mighty. I'm writing two entries because I have two ideas for today.

Idea 1, or 'this entry', is going to be about Miriam. I told Miriam I would make a list about her, so I'll stick to my word. Plus I kind of DO like Miriam and think it would be fun to write a list about her. But after this, FYI readers, I'm taking a break from making lists about people. I think I'm alienating my 7ish readers by making lists about people they don't know. I don't want to alienate my readers-I want to hoard them (like paper clips at my desk or chocolates in my purse)!

But let me focus on Miriam now.

Miriam is one of my co-workers and one of my friends-aw. She works for Media Watch and has a cool half-office next to Debbie. We eat lunch together, have coffee chats in the morning, sometimes we go for drinks after work (and Miriam gets drunk after 1/4 of a gin and tonic...but I digress). Now that you know who she is, here are some things that I like about Miriam.

1) Her name is Miriam. Miriam is a really pretty name, so I like that Miriam is named...um...that. There was this song we sang in Sunday School about Miriam and Esther and since then I've been a sucker for the name. It's so melodic sounding AND Biblical. It packs a double punch-wam bam! Miriam!

2) She dresses in layers. I like the way Miriam dresses for work. She wears cardigans over long sleeve shirts over tank tops over skirts over leggings under FUGGs. She wears 7 outfits in one! I also, though to a lesser degree, am a fan of layering so I appreciate Miriam's ambitious fashion sense. I mean, with layers like that she must have to do laundry twice a week! All jokes aside, I really do like Miriam's layering tendencies and think that she dresses very nicely for work. Way to go Miriam-layers are awesome!

3) She draws for me. I love to draw, and I like to talk about myself. I also like people who are like me. So Miriam's drawing abilities were an OBVIOUS choice for reason #3 in this list. Anyway, I love to draw and I like that Miriam likes to draw too (that way we have things in common to talk about like markers or paper or crayons). Miriam, one time, or actually three times, drew me a name sign for my desk. I really liked that she did that!! The first name sign was rainbowy and swirley-just my taste. I love rainbow colors AND ~@ * swirls * @~. The second sign...I actually don't remember. I think it had flower on it? But I was told that the lettering was hard to read. The third sign, which is currently on my desk in a little plastic name-holder-thing, is BOLD and beautiful. Flowers, black letters, shading-I've gotten many compliments on it. If Miriam didn't know how to draw my desk would be bare right now (well maybe not...but...) and people wouldn't know my name. Thanks Miriam!

4) She talks to me during work. This might sound a little pathetic...or REALLY pathetic. But if you sat at your desk all day waiting for the phone to ring, knowing that when the phone DOES ring it's not going to be anyone worth talking to, you'd be happy to have Miriam come and break up your day too. She comes in the morning for coffee and sometimes in the afternoons too-hooray!

5) She watched 'Heroes' and therefore doesn't mind if I talk about 'Heroes' to her. We all know how much I like to talk about 'Heroes' so it makes sense that I would like that Miriam likes 'Heroes'. What might not make sense is my wording of the last sentence, or my wording in this sentence either. Oh. Well.

6) She's nice. Miriam's a nice person. She has cookies by her desk and she shares them. She lets me have bagels that she gets with her lunch (mmm). She smiles. She asks me how things are going. I appreciate these little nice things that Miriam does :)

7) Miriam's a hard worker. She stays late at work, even if she doesn't want to, which she normally doesn't because who wants to stay late at work?, so that she can get things done. Sometimes she doesn't even take lunch so that she can get her work done. NOT TAKING LUNCH? Wow! That's commitment. If I don't eat lunch I...well...I always eat lunch...so...
Don't know how to finish that sentence.

8) She giggles. I get a lot of crap for giggling in a world where people apparently chuckle or laugh heartily or snigger or chortle or simper (yes I did just use a thesaurus to find those synonyms of 'laugh'). I can't help it. My natural response to humor is a giggle. Not a chortle. Not a snigger. Sometimes my giggling isolates me...
But other times, Miriam is around and she giggles at funny things too. Yay for friends and for Miriam's giggles.

In short, there are many things to like about Miriam. The above list, though brief, hopefully puts to light some of the things that make Miriam so great!
